*Impressions of a star*

Hangeng, from a young ethnic Hezhe graduate of The Central University for Nationalities to the wildly popular Asia pop newcomers’ king, has experienced so much more than the other people of his age did as he just reached 27. Every course of life Hangeng has travelled through accelerated his maturity; though people say, “Stand on one’s own feet at thirty”, Hangeng can already look back and reminisce the events of his life. Through many years of sweet and bitterness, of walking on winding roads, Hangeng successfully terminated his contract with SME, started over from the beginning, and unexpectedly produced impressive work in a short amount of time. His extraordinary journey and his determined pursuit of music has touched and inspired countless young people; “gengfans” like him, care about him, knows that his life is not easy and of course would never leave him; all of this allowed Hangeng to become an idol unmatched in popularity. Recently, Hangeng partnered with the domestic fashion brand YISHION(以纯) to release YISHION TEEBOX series of T-shirts for the summer; YISHION TEEBOX series is comprised of five main themes. Hangeng, who is also the face of YISHION, will try out this young, individualistic, and trendy domestic brand together with young consumers.

Personal Style

In the minds of “Gengfans”, whether according to old fashioned or modern standard s of beauty, Hangeng, who recently portrayed Zhao Shiyan(赵世炎), one of the “Four Handsome Men of the Repulic of China” (民国四大美男), can absolutely be described with just one word: Handsome. Indeed, Hangeng, who is 181cm tall, with his delicate and elegant face and a sunny smile draws countless screams wherever he goes. Hangeng, though young, is a leader among his peers and has a unique insight to fashion, for at every public appearance he presents himself at a level higher than that of an average idol. His method of dressing himself is not complicated; he uses a combination of the basic colors black, white, gray, and simple accessories such as suits, boots, hats and chains. This method appears to be simple and easy to learn and can certainly be a model of dressing oneself for young people. Whether he is working or not, Hangeng’s requirements for clothing is simply “Wear what’s comfortable”, he never thought of himself as an extremely fashionable person. With such a light attitude, Hangeng is definitely a “Handsome man with little effort”.

Personal Closet

Perhaps it is the result of living independently by himself for many years; Hangeng can always organize his life in good order. At his age, many men’s closets belong to the “Appalling Category”, Hangeng’s closet, however, is clean and orderly. There is no special trick except to organize and clean often, in Hangeng’s own words “T-Shirts and t-Shirts go together, jeans and jeans go together”. You can have an orderly closet too if you paid it some attention just once a week or even once month.

*Skills of a Star*

Stylish Black, White and Gray

The colors of black, white and gray are among the safest colors when it comes to clothing, but the colors are also the hardest to shine out, so to present a new feel with the safety colors clothing details and accessories are necessary. Hangeng knows many techniques and is clearly very experienced when it comes to making black, white and gray shine.

1. The more mundane the colors are, the more effort needs to go into the texture and pruning. With mundane colors, it is also easier to create an aura of elegance. Special attention has to be paid to the balance of the material, so the goal of ‘simple but not dull’ can be achieved.

2. Using black and white as background colors can maximize the beauty of accessories, especially the rings, chains, and necklaces that Hangeng likes. It is a privilege of young people to wear many accessories.

3. Don’t be afraid that black, white and gray can appear old-fashioned and boring, a dress hat or high soled boots can dramatically raise your fashion score. This works even with an all black suit and pants. Hangeng showcases this so well that his hats and boots are almost his most distinguishing markers.

Take Care of a T-Shirt in 5 Seconds

As mentioned before, it is hard to fine a clean and orderly closet like Hangeng’s; however, how does Hangeng have to time to clean and organize his closet as he practically live in an airplane? Actually, Hangeng has useful tricks to cut back time, like the “3 Point T-Shirt Folding Method” he showed an live audience that a t-shirt can be neatly folded in just 5 seconds.

*Private Conversation with a Star*

Q: What do you think your clothing style is?

A: The colors I like are simple, but whether clothing or pants, there would be intricate details or accessories.

Q: The Classic One-Piece Clothing in your Closet?

A: Mostly coats/jackets, especially suits, I think they go well with most accessories, so I wear them often during activities.

Q: Are you someone who likes accessories a lot?

A: Yes, because the black, white and gray colors I usually wear are dull enough, so I need accessories to embellish the clothing, I like necklaces, rings, and bracelets. When I go to different places either for work or on vacation, I really like to buy distinctive local adornments.

Q: Does your experiences in Korea influence your fashion style?

A: Of course there would be some influence, but what I wear can still be distinguished as the “Hangeng Model”, a lot of people say you can only wear your own cloths, there are a lot of parts. Actually you can wear whatever you’d like, you just have to have your own characteristics.

Q: Your fondest memory of an attire?

A: In a recent performance I wore a black vest. I haven’t worn clothing from this genre in a long time; in recent years I wore suits and whatnot non-stop. I think wearing the vest for the first time in a while feels pretty good.

Q: Where do you like to buy your cloth the most?

A: I’m not someone who blindly buys brand names. I really like to go to other countries and buy clothing by local designers; they have no generic feel at all and the designers usually only make one or two pieces of a particular clothing, the price is also not expensive, the important thing is another star and I won’t be wearing the same clothing.

Q: What is something you have bought recently that you like very much?

A: I bought a piece of clothing from Japan, if you just look at it, it doesn’t seem to be clothing at all, just a shape, other people don’t know how to wear it. Actually there are more than one way to wear it, you can place your arms through whichever holes and wrap it around you in different ways. It’s very interesting.

Q: What kind of clothing would a girl that is most attractive to you wear?

A: Fresh, fashionable, and simple, as long as it looks comfortable. She doesn’t have to wear the black, white and gray that I like.

Q: Many people like to imitate what the stars wear, do you have any thoughts on that?

A: My advice still is to have your own style, don’t blindly imitate, even if two of the most similar people wear the same clothing they don’t look identical. You have to know when the clothing doesn’t suit you, to be fashionable is to be individualistic.

Q: What type of clothing do you like from YISHION this season?

A: I don’t usually wear bright colors; during the YISHION photo shoot I wore a green t-shirt, the color of environmental protection, it was very nice. Other than green, white and yellow is also very nice. I will try these bright colors later on. Let me recommend this season’s t-shirt and jeans, they are quite fashionable.
